TYPO3 4.6 provides numerous enhancements and new features that make daily use of the CMS for administrators, editors and 'integrators' easier. In addition, the performance of the system substantially improves by a number of optimizations.

The new release has almost too many new and enhanced features to mention them all. Here we give an overview of some of the more visible and most requested features.

From version 4.6, the caching framework that already is an option in version 4.3 is now fully integrated, configured and activated as a standard feature. The TYPO3 Core uses this cache (buffer) automatically which considerably increases the speed of TYPO3.

The rate at which Fluid renderes templates is also greatly improved. Rendering is the process where the computer processes the code to what you see on your screen. Fluid templates are automatically converted to PHP in which this speed improvement is achieved, sometimes up to five times faster than in older TYPO3 versions. Moreover, the core modules Fluid and Extbase have been updated and optimized as well.

TYPO3 supports working with multilingual websites even better. The user friendliness of this functionality has been improved by using the standard XML localization format XLIFF. Translators can maintain and create multilingual websites more easily now.

The most visible new feature is perhaps the integration of the new forms generator ('Wizard'). This generator is based on ExtJS and makes creating web forms a piece of cake. Forms can now be created using drag & drop technology. And thanks to the WYSIWYG view, all settings and changes can be inspected during the creation of a form.

All in all, TYPO3 version 4.6 again is a significant improvement in performance, the package contains some useful improvements that makes TYPO3 one of the most popular Content Management Systems.
